Mr Autar Krishna, a Mechanical Engineer from UK, promoted SAK Industries Ltd. in 1962. As its first foray, SAK Industries established a JV with Krupps of Germany for setting up WIDIA-India Ltd., a market leader in cutting tools and tungsten carbide implements. In 2003, SAK divested its interest in WIDIA-INDIA in favour of a US company, Kennametal Inc. SAK Industries also promoted Nation Wide Finance Limited and in a period of three years, built up this company into a very profitable company specializing in small ticket landing primarily for consumer goods. In the year 2000, SAK Industries sold 74% shares of the company to Citicorp Inc. and in 2003, SAK Industries sold 26% shares to Citicorp Inc. Citi Group has now changed the name of the company from Nation Wide Finance Ltd. to Citibank Retail Financial Services India Ltd. |
